Why do Daddy Dates?

Recently I came to the understanding of the importance of taking your kids out on dates. As I am the Dad of two girls (Jessie, 7 and Katie, 5) I realised that if I am to train my girls to know what to look for in a prospective husband, I need to be modelling those qualities to them first! And I now believe we can’t start doing that early enough…

Having said that, I will share with you the “Daddy Date” that I had with my oldest daughter Jessie. Firstly I decided to turn my phone OFF. It’s a cause of distraction for me, and I very much wanted Jessie to have my full attention. I asked Jessie if there was anything she would like to do. She very emphatically wanted just to go out to lunch with me (at a restaurant).

I wanted to make it special for her, so I was busy doing stuff like opening the car door, in a very over-the-top “Gentlemanly” way which Jessie simply adored. I held her hand. We did the colouring-in that the restaurant gave us. We shared a drink. I helped her order from the menu. I even pulled her chair out for her when she went to sit down for the meal.

It was wonderful to see the glow on her face as she delighted in her Daddy. What a great privilege it is to show her God’s love and to mirror God’s love to her. It was also very cute!

Jessie kept telling me how she loves me for the next two days. It is my resolve to teach her well, to demonstrate how she should be treated, so that together – God willing – we will be able to find a husband who will love and lead her well.

So, what are you waiting for?

Book a “daddy daughter date” with one of your girls today!

Glen will write about “Father & Son Events” in a separate post.
